Today’s creative writing task is based on: Surreal_Dream
Story starter: Am I asleep, or am I dreaming? This was the question that rang out in her head. She looked down at her hands. Then her feet. Then her clothes. Why was she so small? Amy had gone to bed that night as a 13-year-old girl, yet in her dream she was tiny again. She had not worn these clothes since she was 2 years old! What was going on? She had been to this place before, she was certain. It all seemed familiar. Carrying the metal lantern in her fingertips, she waddled slowly through the night, not being able to see further than a few feet in front of her due to the thick wisps of fog that blanketed her vision. Feeling the warm breeze caress her face, Amy inhaled. The air smelled damp, like it had just finished raining, but she couldn’t remember it having done so. Lanterns, as big as post boxes, swayed in the wind, shedding a feeble, hazy glow across the never-ending blackness. She shivered. Something was wrong. Surely dreams couldn’t feel this real?
1. Can you continue the story about the surreal dream?
Sentence challenge:
Fronted adverbials
A fronted adverbial goes at the beginning of a sentence. It describes the verb in the sentence. It describes where, when or how. E.g. During the day, she had felt fine. After sunset, dreams become reality.
Can you try to use one today?
Question prompts to get you thinking: Question time! Have you ever had a dream that has felt incredibly realistic? Have you ever had a dream about something that has come true? If you could design the perfect dream what would it be like? Why do you think you only remember some of the dreams you have and not all of them? What do you think our brains do when we are sleeping?
Answer the questions and use your answers to help you plan your work. Don’t forget to check and edit your work. Does it make sense? Could you improve your word choices?
Ask a Parent or Carer to test you on your spellings.

Today’s creative writing task is based on: The Emperor
Story starter: He had been waiting all day, and now the moment had arrived. His beady, coal-black eyes narrowed. Against the unending blanket of snow that surrounded him, his slick fur looked as dark as the sky at night. The emperor penguin stood completely still, poised for action. This might be his only chance…
1. Can you continue the story of the emperor penguin? What is it he has been waiting for all day?
2, Alternatively, you could write a diary about a day in the life of an emperor penguin.
3. You could carry out further research and write a non-chronological report about emperor penguins.
Sentence challenge: Which two of these sentences are statements? Which are questions? Which are commands? The penguin has black fur. Look at his beak! Where do penguins live? The emperor penguin lives in Antarctica. What do penguins eat?
Question prompts to get you thinking: What makes penguins so good at living in cold conditions? Can you think of other animals that live in such cold places? Would penguins make good pets? How do penguins learn to fish? What makes them good at swimming? What is a penguin’s biggest threat?
Answer the questions and use your answers to help you plan your work. Don’t forget to check and edit your work. Does it make sense? Could you improve your word choices?

Can you draw a line?
Today, we are going to be learning about different types of lines?
A line is a mark made using a drawing tool or brush. There are many types of lines: thick, thin, horizontal, vertical, zigzag, diagonal, curly, curved, spiral and are often very expressive. Lines are basic tools for artists - although some artists show their lines more clearly than others. Some lines in paintings are invisible – as you don’t actually see the dark mark of the line but they are there.
Sometime lines can be seen by the way the artist arranges the objects in a drawing or painting. Watch this video about the types of lines that you can draw. Have fun drawing lines and add some colour if you want to!
