Vision and Values

Our School's Christian Vision, Motto and Values form the bedrock of everything we do at St John's. They guide all our actions and decisions and all at St John's become 'Shining Lights'.

Our School Vision

In our school family, every person will flourish and become a shining light, through living out our Faith, being a Hope-bring in times of darkness and showing God's love to all.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:15-17

Our School Motto

"Be a shining light"

Our Christian Values

At St John's, our eleven Christian values are at the heart of everything we do. Rooted in the life and teachings of Jesus, they shape our worship, curriculum, relationships and the way we care for one another. They help us to live out our Christian vision and enable every member of our community to flourish.

In 2015, we were awarded the Values-based Education Quality Mark in recognition of our commitment to values education. In September 2023, as we celebrated 20 years of Values Education at St John's, pupils, staff, governors and families came together to reflect on and reaffirm the values that define our school community.

Each month, we focus on one of our eleven values through collective worship, classroom learning and daily life:

  • September: Love
  • October: Thankfulness
  • November: Peace
  • December: Hope
  • January: Self-control
  • February: Honesty
  • March: Humility
  • April: Forgiveness
  • May: Courage
  • June: Empathy
  • July: Faith

Children explore each value through the Bible, the example of Jesus, inspiring individuals, literature and real-life experiences. Our values are woven throughout the curriculum and school life, including projects such as our partnership with Greenvale Special School, where children learn the importance of friendship, dignity and service.

We encourage our children not only to understand these values but to live them out each day, both in school and at home. Together with our families, we seek to nurture compassionate, courageous and hopeful young people who are equipped to make a positive difference in the world.
